It's been a few weeks since I shared a blog post. The reality is that other priorities have taken precedence and needed my full attention.
The hectic time is still ongoing, but today, I decided to step away from my usual routine and set aside my daily responsibilities. After all, it is Sunday...
I went inline skating again—this time wearing a complete leather outfit. And you know what? It worked!
About 15 minutes into the ride, a man approached me asking, “Aren’t you hot in that leather outfit?” I responded, “I’d rather be hot than cold.” He then asked why I was dressed entirely in leather. I countered with, “What makes you think I wear a full leather outfit?” He assumed it was for protection and then launched into one of the most common stereotypes. You wear a leather outfit because...
Guess which one it was.
...it provides protection, similar to what bikers wear.
... you enjoy the look and want to stand out.
... you are dominant and keep whips in your closet.
I heard his "hypothesis" and laughed loudly. Then, I told him that what he said revealed more about him than about me. I continued exploring his beliefs and knowledge without giving him the answers he sought. Before long, he shared everything I wanted to know. Knowing that my smile and silence are as powerful as my words, and so he could certainly understand something too. Our curiosity led us into an extended conversation that provided us with new insights.
Before the end of the ride, he finally shared that it is rare for him to find a person with whom he can have an honest and open conversation. Based on his experience, some people are too reserved and afraid to speak openly about their desires and attractions. They feel intimidated and shy, as if their fascinations wouldn’t be accepted. My takeaway from the discussion was that stereotypes are indeed real and still prevalent.
I love breaking stereotypes and showing people that there are many ways to express their passions and open their minds.
The guy was clearly attracted to leather and wasn’t afraid to approach me. To his surprise, I told him that such confidence is rare. Many people struggle to express their attraction; they often don’t know what to say or how to act. I represent their desires, which can make them feel vulnerable. And I understand the strength it takes to confront what makes you feel weak.
There is a fine line between being vulnerable to what attracts you and having the strength to acknowledge and address it.
Helping people understand their attraction to leather and overcome fear, so they can live their lives fully and seize all the opportunities that come their way is my mission.
If you read the previous post about inline skating, you can see how the leather attire completely altered my experience of the event. Your choice of clothes matters! A full leather outfit always provides a richer experience regardless of the activity or environment!
Go and try it yourself!
I absolutely agree Deni. The appropriate outfit is sometimes able to move mountains. It influences the attitude of the person who wear this outfit and of the person who is in contact with her/him as well.
The charisma you spread when you, Deni, wear a full leather outfit is outstanding.
I for myself feel already more powerful when I wear only one piece made of leather.
Just recently when I was working as Business Coach I felt more self-confident and effective only due to the fact that I wore my brown leather pants. The other day I wore my blue biker leather jacket and the coachee welcomed me with the words „super cool“. I think this has a certain positiv…
Full leather outfit is your staple.
I actually think it's a shame that these stereotypes about wearing leather clothing still persist...especially for women. Leather has become more common womens everyday fashion — from casual/street clothes to professional/work attire. Some people just accept the stereotype as truth so it might be surprising or shocking to them when a leather wearing person like yourself is breaking away from it. Stereotypes just negatively effects us — it makes people constantly judgemental of each other thus creates an environment where there is a fear of being open and expressing yourself.
If I was in his position, I would compliment you on your nice leather outfit and ask you if there is a story behind…
